The Dispensary was officially opened on May 19, 1994 under the auspices of Metropolitan Elias Audi, parish priest Xarkhos Germanos El Hage, and the presence of official figures and parishioners. The dispensary provides medical consultations, medications and social services to the people of the four parishes in the region: St. Mary’s, Ras Beirut, St. Michel, Mazraa, St. Elias, Mseitbe, and St. Elias Btina.
The dispensary is operated by volunteer doctors assisted by a social worker, a registered nurse and a secretary.
The dispensary is operated by volunteer doctors in the following specialties: family medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, gastroenterology, dermatology, ophthalmology, ear nose and throat, internal medicine, kidney diseases, and cardiology, in addition to a dental clinic which operates with modern facilities at discounted prices. The following team assists the doctors in the daily operation:
- Mrs. Gladys Farah: Social worker to assess the patients in terms of their needs, and to follow up on their social situation.
- Ms. Huda Dagher: Registered Nurse to assist the doctors and take care of first aid.
- Ms. Rima Sassine: Secretary for scheduling appointments and follow up.
Last year, about 1440 appointments were scheduled (120 patients/month) whereas the Dental Clinic averages around 1400 appointment/year. For its patients, the dispensary provides medication offered by individual or institutional donations. Medications for chronic diseases are offered within the framework of the chronic medication program, in collaboration with the YMCA and the Ministry of Public Health. The dispensary currently has about 100 subscribers in this program. Patients have access to different centers for lab tests and X-rays at reduced prices.
